…Give us this day our daily exercise! Daily exercise is the best way for us to improve our physical and mental health. For many of us, exercising in nature, a walk in the woods, can nourish our spiritual needs.  When we feel good about ourselves, when we are healthy and happy, we are better to be around, better for our community and the world is a better place. Physical inactivity creates  health risks in normally healthy individuals, and that cost of our inactivity translates directly to the rising expense of  health care. According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recently released online in Health Affairs, the cost of obesity and related diseases in the U.S. is as high as $ 250 billion annually.  Not getting our daily exercise is making us unhappy, unhealthy and is getting very expensive. Take the time, make the time, daily exercise is fun and free.

Have you ever felt like your head is going to explode, angry with the world around you, depressed about your job ?  Get some daily exercise, it’s good for your head. 
Intense physical activity can release endorphins, a natural opiate that can produce a calming effect. Wow, and it’s free, too. Daily exercise has been shown to stimulate the formation of new brain cells for memory and learning. It can benefit those with dementia. Exercise can help psychologically by reducing feelings of anxiety and depression. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of exercise 3-5 times per week can have the same effect as taking  powerful antidepressant drugs. Exercise can help you get to sleep and sleep better.  Physical activity can improve your self esteem. Many people have found that they do their best thinking while exercising. Daily exercise is really good for your head.

 We have become a society of overweight people. The conveniences that dominate our everyday lives have combined to create a sedentary lifestyle. We prefer to be entertained rather than to entertain. We prefer prepared meals
instead of preparing meals. We push buttons, we drive thru, we ride in carts when we could walk on the golf course, we do all we can, to do less and now we are paying for it. Obesity is helping to drive the cost of healthcare out of control. Daily exercise is the answer.   Daily physical activity can help control weight, prevent and control diabetes, lower cholesterol(boosts HDL’s while lowering triglycerides), lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, reduce the risk of developing colon cancer and can improve sexual function. Exercise will increase your energy level and reduce your risk of dying prematurely. With all those reasons, don’t you want to go and play? It’s free and it’s fun. Stop giving in to convenience, park and walk, rake your leaves, wash your windows, walk the dog, ride a bike. Put more energy in to life and you will have more energy to do the things you love. Daily exercise is really good for your heart.

The wonder of nature !  Listen to a babbling brook, enjoy the beauty in a blanket of fresh snow, the serenity of  a pond,  the vastness of the ocean, the majesty of a redwood forest and realize that nature nurtures us.
It is from nature where we have come and it is to nature where we can go to fuel the questions about life and beyond.  In nature we realize that we are only a piece in a very big puzzle.  In nature is beauty and mystery. Regardless of your personal beliefs, the natural world is a temple for all. Go and play, far from the crowds, with the sky overhead, in the ocean or on the land, and be amazed at what you learn about yourself and the world around you. Play in nature and nourish your soul. Give yourself your daily exercise, enjoy it, have fun. Be a 7day recreationalist for your Head, Heart and Soul.    Happy Trails  !

Positive Vibrations

This 89 year old yoga instructor exemplifies the 7day attitude. She loves to practice tai chi in the  morning. She still moves really well and she is much more flexible than I am. It’s never too late to start. Check her out in this video and go do some yoga.
